OMG!!! [Dec. 8th, 2006|10:59 pm]
[mood |giddygiddy]

OMG!  You wouldn't believe the party tonight!
It started around 7pm when Mark (Badger) Sheppard (photo w/me in previous post: Dec 8th) offered to autograph stuff and a line formed, I wasn't going to bother him because I already had the amazing photo...but then I decided to go up and get one of my Serenity comic books and have him autograph the beautiful picture of Badger...  And Brett Mathews was there giving away reprints of the first Serenity comic book and autographing them (someone from Dark Horse was giving away free logo key rings, how cool is that?!).
Anyway when I was heading upstairs I ran across Jonathan M. Woodward (Holden on Buffy, Knox on Angel, and Tracey on Firefly) and I had to tell him how brilliant he was in Wit (where he starred w/Emma Thompson), I asked if they had him come to the Emmys, and he said he would have but it was the year the Emmys were cancelled (how disappointing is that!).

Just as I was getting into a line to have my picture taken with Jonathan, I saw Nathan Fillion walking into the bar carrying a box....  When he arrived there was a huge stir and I hopped up onto a chair:
(there are photos that go here but are refusing to load...I'll put them in my photo bucket)
Nathan said how sorry he was to hear about our con being .... maybe another definition of 'con'.
He then shouted out, who is from Australia, one young lady came forward (she came from Australia for the convention but she also has family to visit in the area) anyway he gave her a gift from the box, I think it was a book that ties into his next project...
then he asked for others from Australia, those from Great Britain, and other far away places and he gave them stuff from his box....
Turns out Nathan had pulled out books and tapes and 'Serenity' money from his closet, dumped them in a box and gave them away!
I didn't try to get anything I was just marveling at how amazing he was to even think of doing this!  So amazingly cool.
But at that point someone from the Hotel came over and told me to get off the chair (well I knew that would happen sooner or later).
So I doubled back toward the bar (away from Nathan) only to see Alan Tudyk right in front of me!  OMG!
He was so sweet, when I touched his arm and said I loved his work he actually introduced himself.   So funny, of course I knew who he was...but there was so much noise in the room I'm sure he couldn't hear me...and probably he wanted me to introduce myself.   But the noise was rising and people were starting to notice him, so I just got a quick photo with him

and let him escape to join Nathan (and a huge cheer went up as people saw him there).
I then got to the bar where I saw Christina Henricks and Jonathan M. Woodward.

And finally I worked my way around the bar toward Nathan, who was trying to move quickly through the crowd (but letting people take pictures with him)...when he got to me he just took my camera and took a picture of the two of us together (it came out perfectly, showing how brilliant he is!).

Can you believe this?  So cool!  So beyond cool!  Happy Happy Joy Joy....

Note added Saturday morning:  ...I wanted to really thank Cedric of the Bedlam Bards who was here entertaining Thursday night and Friday afternoon, I bought two of his CDs of Firefly music (one is a Christmas gift, the other is for me!).

And a HUGE thank you to Adam/lexigeek (of BlackMarketBeagles) and his beautiful wife Karla who worked really hard on Thursday and Friday, along with other volunteers from San Francisco and LA, to salvage some fun for all of us.  They worked all Friday night during the fun we were having, try to keep crowd control for the actors, and the hotel, trying to keep things running smoothly.  They deserve a lot of recognition:

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this together, I am very grateful!

How can you not love love love these people? I mean... seriously... whoa.

They are so frickin' (to use Nathan's word) amazing and so supportive of the fans... just gives me snuggle bunnies all over.

Damn I love this fandom.

It was an amazing weekend, the actors (and other guests) were not paid, they put up with hours of flash bulbs and crazy fans just out of the kindness of their hearts!
But also there were the California fans who volunteered their own weekend (which they had paid in advance for) to organize activities for everyone else!
And fans who couldn't be there who donated money online which paid for a space where we could hold the alternative event...
AND Multiverse (a muliplayer online gaming company that has the contract to make a game for Firefly, which should come out in 2008) paid for the buses to take us back and forth from the hotel to the rented space....
So much generosity and good will, it id definitely snuggle bunny producing!

Wow, I'm so glad that even though the actual convention was a bust, you got to meet a lot of the people you wanted to. And that was very nice of them to have gone there to meet you all.

And Nathan is sooooo cute!

Can you believe how generous of them? They weren't getting paid anything, they came just to be kind and cheer us up (did they ever!). Nathan is incredibly handsome, and so friendly and funny!

Hi, it's me, Cliomuse from the BCB. Thank you for the wonderful photos and report.

I am so glad this hasn't been an utter disaster. The Cali Browncoats and the BDH are amazing people. Alan had cancelled before the sh*t hit the Flan, and he STILL came out for the fans. How cool is that?

This is my first experience with a fandom. Looks like I picked the best.

So Shiny!! Just wanted to gve a shout out that anyone who is interested in more about the Bedlam Bards, please go check out their website at:

They are super Shiny folk who support this fandom from within, and they are also incredibly talented. If anyone took any pics of them at the BBB, we'd love to see them over at bedlam_bards

It has been a very surreal weekend, full of highs and lows, but I'm actually really glad I was there. I had fun and quite an adventure.
Now I'm hoping to prevent a sore throat, I got caught out in the rain Saturday night and was soaked through, and really chilled.... We'll see how I do tomorrow!

Oh yes! I talked about that in Thursday's (the previous day's) post:
I had driven down Thursday morning, arriving at the Hilton, checking in, unpacking, turning on my computer...and discovering that Flan2 was cancelled(!).
So I went down for dinner feeling low, and wanting to be alone, I sat in a quiet corner of the Grille reading my book, but just as I was finishing I heard applause and cheers....

So I paid my bill and hurried to the bar to find Adam Baldwin hold court there. He was so relaxed and charming and incredibly handsome and approachable (I was so glad I was wearing my 'Hero of Canton' t-shirt!). He took a picture w/me but it is on someone else's camera...I hope to get it eventually (I'll start bugging her about it tomorrow). Anyway, Adam is the best!

Flan 2 -

you are so right - it makes me feel so great to see all the wonderful things that happened out of the potential total fandon disasters. I wish that the big-wigs at the corp offices would understand just how much the fans love the work of Joss Whedon and all the people that have worked with him and stop giving the fan site trouble. We are one of their greatest assests for keeping their products alive.

The Heroes just got more heroic and so did the Serenity and Firefly Fans.

They really are Big Damn Heroes, aren't they? I am so glad that all the people who traveled so far and spent so much time and money to get to the con didn't just get "conned". God, I love my cold, dead shows! (And the people who bring the characters to life!)

So very awesome. Lovely pictures of you, but even more wonderful memories.

I watched the whole thing unroll on Whedonesque - and I think we have to credit the folks there for helping get the momentum rolling. All I could do was send a tiny cash contribution, but it's been so inspiring to see how very much others have done to go way beyond salvaging teh event into creating memories that will last forever.

Browncoats don't just rock - they are diamonds!

And WTF is up with LJ today? It keeps rejecting comments.

Let me thank you, I posted a thank you at Whedonesque. I can assure you that our weekend would not have been so nice without the donations people made. talimama found the Pickwick Center for us to rent, but we could never have rented it without the generosity and quick response w/donations of those who did contribute to the Browncoat Backup Bash. The Hilton couldn't let us use any space, so it was only by renting space at the Pickwick Center that we were able to have activities on Saturday and Sunday. So your contribution was HUGELY appreciated.

And I have pledged to donate every penny of refund I get (you know, assuming there is any, but I have hopes for VISA even while I'm not so hopeful about BE) will be donated to Equality Now in the name of Whedonesque because of all the people there who were so kind and generous.

Thank you.

Good thing I wasn't able to get off from work to attend. I'd have hated for a story like this to have been ruined by a fan doing a Niska impersonation on the "tah mah duh hwoon dahn" who canceled the official event. I think we could have gotten them to introduce their true selves before the weekend was over...
